Alright so the banter in the CCgear thread about hollow/solid/other guitars got me to thinking.
If you could have only 1 guitar for the rest of your guitaring days what would it be.... GO

Well... That's a hard question. If I was actually faced with this prediciment, I'd chose my 5120 because it's got sentimental value and is a rockin' good axe.
But... If I had to chose just one to take me through the rest of my days, I'd take a brand new LDS Falcon with the filters swapped out for TV Classics. ;)

a Tenny/Cheney/White Pheonix/SetzerOneTwenty. something along those lines.
But it would be a Trestle braced hollow gretsch with TeeVees.

I'd go for the Maton 808.
....Nick can back me up on this one. You rather liked that one, didn't you?

mmmm I've thought long and hard about this recently especially because I have 2 of both of my fave style guitars. (jets and tele's)
I think eventually I'd go for a Tele though, it just does so much and now its so easy for me to play. the scale and neck just feel right.
probably go for a red one with a black pickguard and a maple neck. single coil size humbucker (with coil tap) in the bridge and normal single coil in the neck.
and probably put sperzels in it too, makes things a bunch easier for changing strings
Such a hard question, for me it would have to be the Cheney, for sentimental reasons too. Although you can't get every tone it bang on, you can do a gretsch-y version of the tone you're after in the ballpark... and I like that bit of a difference :)
However if I was going for the whole "have to be versatile incase I change styles etc" thing, she would have to be a tele. as some guy has in his AGGH signature ....
"You can play anything on a Tele"
he speaks the truth!

Excuse the shop whoring and clown in the photo, but my desert island guitar is as of a few weeks back, this wun:

BIt left of field for me, but in all honestly, that's one of the most AMAZING sounding guitars I've ever played. The strings litereally haven't been changed in 20 years but it still fucking sings. Totally caught me by surprise. Plays like butter too! 1961 Gibbo ES335. :D
there are several instruments in that picture men would kill for. WHERE IS THAT?!?!?! IS THAT AT YOUR MUSIC SHOP?!?!?! WOW!!!
LOOOVEEEE that 'was yellow once' tele to the left of the pic, YUMMMMMM, and the one with binding would be great in not suburst ;)
and farrrrrkkk me they are some expensive guitars there. what was the gibbo priced at?

Amen dude. Yeah that's in the wintage room at twang :) Yeah those Tele's are corkers, ones a '60's (can't remember exactly) blonde custom (double bound haha) and the other's a WHITEguard '54. Very first of the whiteguards. Killer. Haha yeah but that sunburst Tele hauls massive arse too man! But I agree, not huge on sunbursts to be perfectly honest!
Yeah it's a bit depressing sometimes! The gibbos got 59k on it. GULP.
Hooollllllyyyyyyyyyyyyy sweet jesus. PUT IT DOWN AND STEP AWAY! hahahaha.
that's beyond amazing mate, what a crazy awesome shop! Love a nice white guard yellow tele :)

Hahahaha yeah it's a bit like that! But yeah, they're there to be played! No glass cases haha. THanks dude, quite enjoy it. Something different to all the Billy Hyde shops in town now haha.
Mm white guards are nice, but black guars where it's at ;) The bawss and I are gonna put together a couple for ourselves using bodies and necks from musikraft.com. They've basically asked a bunch of blackguard owners to let them take measurements and neck profiles etc from a bunch of blackguard teles and you can buy the repros online! So good. So were gonna use the neck from the closest serial number to his '54 and go from there. Just make an authentic repro of a 54. Can't wait :)

haha yeah or has good insurance, one of the two :p Yeah that's exactly what we don't wanna be, another supermarket! We're in the west end of the Adelaide CBD, with the other brothels/opium dens etc :)
Oh don't get me wrong, blonde white guards are sexy too haha. I've probably been corrupted somewhere along the journey man, gettin allll fussy in my old age haha. My gear priorities are Timeline>RC30>speakers>Blackguard at the moment, so hopefully get it off the ground mid year. Tax pressie maybe :D

hahahaha nice. If I ever come to Radelaide (because there are several reasons one may visit that fine city, such as.... :ermm:), I'll HAVE to stop by. and then we can go out, write ourselves off and come home grab an acoustic guitar and sing the night away. hahaha.
Amidst all this looper talk, I've been playing around with the looper on the dl4 and god it's handy for writing/practicing. and very fun :) it's a shame it's not the greatest looper, an rc-30 would be freaking fun!
I'm considering a timeline for my birthday... In August.... THATS how poor I am, If I get off my ass and get a job these prospects may increase soon. My thoughts are that the timeline has a million presets (something I always wish for on the DL4, I like using weird delays in songs but I'm not going to fuck around onstage setting one up), does a great bluesky shimmer sound (will sooth my GAS for the bluesky temporarily) AND it may replace the dl4, which I can sell and make mooolah off... TO BUY MORE THINGS :woot: totally justified in my eyes

bahahaha too true man :D Ahhh she ain't all bad, but yes, bit quieter than Melbs/Syd haha. But we do have a shitload of pubs about the place and a nifty gittar store ;) Shotgun Like a Rolling Stone btw haha
Yeah I can't believe how much im using the dd20's one at the moment! The other (trio) bands really starting to gather some pace finally and the songs are flowing! Finding myself wanting to fill it out more and more whilst still being a trio, and the loopers been awesome for that. But everything it can do, the rc30 does a bajillion times better, and less tap dancing between delay/looper/delay presets haha.
Ahh that sucks dude! But on the plus side, when you do get one, it'll be that much sweeter! My thoughts exactly on the presets stuff. There's so much scope for wierdness/atmosphere! Gonna have to get one of those Tech 21 midi mouse things I think, for preset switching and whatnot....don't like the look of the bank switching on the timeline yet...But yeah it'll cover a few bases I think! Wouldn't be surprised if it had some basic verb stuff thrown in too :)
Either way, not far away now! And the dollars holding up quite nicely too...HURRY THE SMURF UP STRYMON!
hahaha you speak untold amounts of truth!
I just hope this dollar stays up for me!

Posting in this thread actually feels like cheating on my other guitars... but if I could only play one guitar for the rest of my life I would be elated if that guitar were my customised Godin. It just does everything and sounds absolutely immense no matter what you do with it. If you haven't seen it before I'll stick up a photo of it later. I have to say, I don't think it necessarily looks much to behold, but it plays absolutely beautifully.

Is that a natural with a darkish wood Giles or is that someone else's I've seen? You've got Manson's in your Godin yeah? That'd be awesome.

Yerp for sure.. It's one hell of an acoustic. It played so well. If I was stuck on a desert island without power, I'd probably want a Maton Messiah I reckon. Still the best acoustic I've played.
