Now that's a question!

I reckon we'll see the video next weekend - but that is just my speculation!!

If you go on the standingontheoutside site and go to the video section it says that rising sun is coming soon...i was hoping it'd be on rage this weekend, but it wasn't so I reckon we'll see it at the end of the week!

Nah we can't upload it legally. Cause its A. Copyright material and B. Will no doubt be able to be purchased somewhere down the line on a cheesy Video Clip DVD or something like that.

Colezy
03-05-2007, 12:10 AM
Ah shite - forgot about the copyright part! haha :p Thanks Kev :)

In a way, I hope its not on a music DVD compilation because it'd be alongside a heap of crappy artists/bands, I'm sure.. unless its a Standing On The Inside dvd or something.
Then again, it'd be good to have a dvd quality copy!

ugh, too many sarahs. :D

and sorry if it was already posted.
rae's comments that trav quoted came from the currency tour thread in the gig section, but after she posted her thoughts, the conversation died. no one ever posted this in response, and that thread was dead, but i felt trav wanted us to see this, so he could explain his side of the story.

Thanks for posting the link to the blog! It was nice to hear what Trav had to say about it.

This was one of the articles, I can go dig up the others if you want me to.

This was in the January 17th issue of Beat, complete with a photo of Trav. There were also articles in Beat and Inpress the week before that :) I can type those out too if you like.

When Travis Demsey left a steady job with The Living End five years ago, he set out on a journey where the music mattered more than the money, where friendship mattered more than keeping a record label happy. And his journey has culminated in The Currency, a Celtic rock outfit with Travis on the drums, and more traditional instruments than you can shake a shillelagh at.

Travis says he left The Living End because the music was becoming stale. "I felt that we had a difference of opinion about where the band should go musically. I think, in a way, I wasn't respected enough. I think when you're not respected enough, you can do two things: you can whinge about it, or you can move on. I decided to move on, and I'm glad I did. I don't think they've made great music since I've left. I don't think they had much faith in my ability to be a drummer or a contributor to the band, but I think the proof is in the pudding."

So while it may seem like a strange leap from punk drummer to Celtic punk drummer, Travis says that coming up with band members was easier than it might seem. "I grew up on punk rock, way back when I was a young skateboarder living in the country down in Gippsland. I think in some regards, a lot of the subculture music has that punk rock attitude. Punk rock is a scene, but anyone who is in the punk rock scene knows that it can be broken down into 70s punk rock, early 80s punk rock, skate punk... it goes on and on. I like to think more of punk as an attitude. Reggae has that attitude, a lot of folk music has that attitude, country 'n' western has that attitude. We're just trying to blend Australian Celtic tales with the attitude of punk."

The band has been rehearsing for a year solid, and has already recorded an impressive sounding three-track EP at Sing Sing, which they will be launching this week at their fifth gig ever. "We recorded it at Sing Sing with our friend Richard Stolz. He has done a lot of other bands like After The Fall. He did mates rates for us and Sing Sing looked after us. We're just finalising where we are going to do the new album now. But it's going to be brilliant, mark my words. The Currency is pretty lucky. I work pretty much half the week as a drum tech. I'm the only guy who does it in Melbourne. I work in studios four days a week, tuning drums for some of the biggest bands in Australia. Having that experience, and a friend in the studios already, will certainly make our album better than what a lot of bands can afford. We know the tricks of the trade and have friends in high places. That being said, the friendship is what matters, not what we can get out of these people.

"Hopefully we're going to start making an album in two weeks. We're not going to wait for a record deal. Although one would be lovely, we don't want to jump for the first one offered. We will finance it ourselves. Hopefully we will put out an album mid-year. The Currency doesn't want to take over the world. We just want to be an Australian band that occasionally flits overseas to play people some Australian Celtic music. I think we could put out an album every year. I think our sort of music can reach people who aren't into musical proficiency, it's more about the attitude and the good times that we can bring. It's about what's going to move people and get them to tap their foot while they have a drink."

Travis says he likes to imagine he's the captain of The Currency ship, but he qualifies that by saying he's just the pushiest one in the band. "Someone has to take charge, and I'm happy to be the one to do it. I've been in a position that not many of the other people have been in. For a good five years of my life I was touring the world with the biggest bands in the world of that time. From The Offspring to Green Day to Rancid and Blink 182, all that sort of stuff comes into play. With that experience, you see how shit has to work sometimes.

"I have a great group of people in the band who tolerate my always talking about what we can do and how to record for no money. I get in your face. I don't like the grayness in the music scene; I like it black or white. Bands are lazy, they fuck around too much. You've always got time to smoke pot and drink. Do that after you've done the work. Too many bands wake up late and play Playstation. The money that The Living End used for two albums, I reckon I could have made three albums a year for ten years."

The Currency launches their self-titled EP at the Northcote Social Club on Thursday January 18. $10 includes a CD and support acts Coue Method (ex-MYC) and Donnie (Blueline Meid).

I'd like to see Andy write some stuff.

What do you call someone who hangs around with musicians?
A drummer.

Why do bands have bass players?
To translate for the drummer.

Evil Chris
03-06-2007, 07:24 PM
I said I'd like to see the drummer write some stuff. Geez, no need to jump to conclusions and call me a retard.

And by the way, Scott wrote some good stuff. In fact, all the ones he wrote or even co wrote are my favourites.

It's true. I said so.

And Metallica don't count.

But it would be good to see something by Andy.

Oh and how cool would it be if another guitarist recorded witht them??

Grumma

Why don't Metallica count?

Are they beyond the realms of comparison?

Johnny_Wah
03-06-2007, 07:54 PM
Yeah. Derrr.

You know in the Master of Puppets live in Sydney video on youtube, you don't see any of Kirky boy during the guitar solo. It should be illegal to do that.

Do you think TLE will go in a different direction with their next album? Like maybe Rising Sun is an example of what some of their new album sounds like. More back to rockabilly.

It's early thinking but still...

Grumma
03-06-2007, 07:55 PM
Dunno.

Think maybe they'll do what Trivium did; record the MoP cover for Kerrang then release a thrash album lol?

I don't really see that happening.

But man that would be awesome.

I would like to see them changing things up a bit. SOE is a bit plain to me, it doesn't sound like they really extended themselves anywhere they hadn't been before.

WHITE FALCON
03-06-2007, 08:24 PM
hahah why dont they cover trivium and do pull harder on the strings of your marter :)

andy can double kick like that cant he :p

Grumma
03-06-2007, 08:26 PM
lol the vocals would sound interesting . . .

And in Pull Harder you can get away with a single kick; just follow the guitars.
I tabbed it out but I cant remember what I did with it

*edit* it went something like this:

HH: x---x---x---x---
SD: ----o-------o---
BD: oo----oo--oo----

with the original looking like this:

HH: x---x--- x---x---
SD: ----o--- ----o---
TT: --2---1- --2---1-
BD: oooooooo oooooooo

Johnny_Wah
03-06-2007, 08:39 PM
That's funny. Drummers can't read numbers and can only read circles and x's.

Grumma
03-06-2007, 08:41 PM
Makes perfect sense to me :P

x stands for hitting a cymbal; the o stands for hitting the corresponding drum :)

tanguyen
03-06-2007, 08:46 PM
I reckon if they do another "Under the Covers" bonus CD, they should pick really random tracks and try and rework them so that it sounds like them again. But I think they already did that with other songs anyway.

Living End doing Master of Puppets or Pull Harder etc... would be amusing to listen to. Any Cannibal Corpse would be interesting or listening to them bring sexy back...

Grumma
03-06-2007, 08:47 PM
They'd have to half the temp to be able to play Cannibal Corpse

Johnny_Wah

30? For a DragonForce cover? I was thinking maybe 100. Can Chris Cheney match the solos of Herman Li? We will know if they do a cover. Which I don't think that they'll do at this stage.

Grumma
03-06-2007, 09:28 PM
Well obviously that didn't work on the last album :p

Nah they should just release whatever they wanna release

*edit* and no Chris wouldnt be able to match the Li/Totman combo. I think his arm would fall off

Julian
03-06-2007, 09:32 PM
This begs another question. Can Herman Li write a song that doesn't make my ears bleed?

Neo

The 80s were awsome.

The music was better, the fashion was more outlandish, there was essentially no such thing as political correctness compared to todays over governed society.

And of course; mullets combined with leather pants

TreCoola

i lived in the western suburbs once, its not "that" bad is it? i've been to adelaide, now that place is boring, its so small. Anyway how did you get the impression that the western suburbs was so bad?

You just need to know where to look in Adelaide. It's small, but not really boring. We have alot of basement and back alley clubs for the Psychobilly scene and alternative rock and metal and shit. You just need some local knowledge rather than wandering up and down Hindley Street trying to get stabbed.

Do you guys still want Andy's school pics? Coz no promises or anything but I can try and have a look for you (and me). I have cousins who go to Aberfoyle and Mum's a librarian at the State Library so...
Seems like no one has done much about it e.g. Glenn!

We have Chris and Scott's school photos so it'd be cool to see Andy's school photos too.

My detective skills may not have got me off my arse, however i enquired and found that the school itself doesn't keep the archives, but the library does. I think they mean the Aberfoyle Hub Library or whatever is nearby.
