I'm having some problems accessing a site i regularly visit. I have a wireless broadband account for a week and a half. I've been using it a fair bit with no problems until tonight it just wouldn't work. I've tried deleting my cookies to see if that worked, but it didn't. I can go anywhere but this one site. Evidently, the TLE site was broken for me for about 2 months and now i can get onto it. Seems strange to me. Anywho, i'm no computer tech, i don't know how to fix it so perhaps i can get some help?

Was it just the TLE forums you couldn't access or the actual website?? Because a little while back (half way through last year) the forums had been hacked into, so the forums were down for a fair while.
I'm not sure why you can't access just that one site though. But because it is just one site that you can't get in too, maybe its just that that particular site that is having problems.
I'm no expert though.

I could access the the TLE main page but it just had the news showing on a white page. I could guess where the links were to get to other places on the site and the little hand thing came up above the news box like there was a link there but when i clicked it didn't do anything. How long were the forums actually down for? As far as i remember i did get onto the forum site over the christmas break. Unless they were down then, which case i'm wrong. But i couldn't even go to Shows, Shop, Band, what have you. AS OF RIGHT NOW it seems to be working fine. The Metallica forum could be having its own problems. It did just get updated. Maybe my laptop is just being moody.

Ahh ok. Well the TLE forums were fine over the christmas 06 period.
Meh..I'm not sure then. I'm usually the one to be asking help on here! :p
Keep checking this thread though - there are some cluey internet/computer foumers on here! I'm sure they'll be able to help more than I can :)

For a start this has absolutely nothing to do with your inernet connection. Because you can see some sites and not others, we can safely assume it is an issue with those sites, or something is on those sites that your computer is not equipped to view.
In the TLE site's case, it uses Flash. If it is working now, but wasn't before, i dare say you just didn't have the latest version of flash viewer installed. If you can see it now...all is well.
As for the Metallica forum...maybe it's down because it has been worked on. I'm unsure, I'm not familiar with the place. Perhaps contact some people you know through there, or just try to access them from a public computer, or a friends. That way you can narrow it down to being a site problem or your own computers problem!
Good luck!

I vaguely remember someone the other day saying that this forum was down for a few minutes...

I didn't think there was a problem with my connection, but i'm no boffin. I think i got the required Flash when i downloaded Command & Conquer 3. (it kick serious ass btw) Which would explain the now working TLE site. I was sure i accessed it over the christmas break, but looking back i was prolly on my brothers computer. Hes got everything, its a feat of engineering! As for the Metallica forum, well i just logged on and seems to be working fine :) There doesn't seem to be any problems with IE or my connection. I'm just a computer spastic. You make everything good again Glenn.

Ooh, C&C 3 is out already?
Anyway, it sounds like a problem with your DNS (the database that looks up web addresses that you type in, and translates them into computer-speak). This could either be related to a setting on your computer, on your router/modem, or on your ISP's end (the company that sells you internet).
The simplest thing seems to be waiting a couple of days/weeks to see if it goes away by itself. If not, see if you can consistently figure out what will and won't work, to help diagnose it. G'luck.

I'd say it's either flash, or some other particular plug-in.

C & C demo is ;)
I have a Bigpong Wireless broadband account with a USB modem. I also have a Wireless mouse which plugs into USB ports. Along with all the other Wireless shit (LAN and Bluetooth and shit) i was thinking it might be interfering somehow. I have only had my internet account for like 2 weeks this thursday so maybe i'll just have to sit it out for now.

Bah, demo. I'll wait until the full deal. If it's anything like Supreme Commander my computer won't handle it anyway :p
If you can access any website, your internet is working, as Glenn said. If you can access a website some of the time and not others it's probably just bad reception. If you can't access a particular website EVER the site is broken, or you're missing a bit of software like Flash, or have DNS gremlins.

It could well be. The download window says it was 1.17G. It took a bit under 8 hours anyhow. I thought it was quite large for a demo.
I have 4 out of 5 bars of reception nearly all of the time so its not the reception. I could access other sites at the same time. I'm just putting it down to those ruddy DNS gremlin shitheads. It works now, thats all i care!

Yeah, I think the SupCom demo was about that size? The full game is ~8GB installed, though. Damn these new games and their hugeness.
Good luck with keeping them gremlins away, too.
