That new looper from pigronix looks crazy, and check out the Super-Puss from way huge. A souped up Aqua Puss! And that Jag-Marr (something to do with Johnny Marr i'm guessing... wow wow wow. So perdy!

Yeah you're right.. My hopes have been smashed too many times before :(
The update on the website was very vague though... BUT it turns out that brand that's helping make them has bill at their NAMM exhibit. It IS happening. :woot:

With malekko stuff i'm guessing you mean??
Talk about a grab 'n go board!! :D That'd be so cool!!
I can't see these being too exxy, would be damn cool on my board. THEN add the Boss tuner to my second board... which already has the DL4 brewing on it... hmmmmm!!!

New shtuff from Eastwood...
sneak peaks for Spring 2012 - here in my office is the new Airline Espanada next to a Tuxedo-CB (Bigsby) just to give you an idea of the size. She is awesome sonically and visually - big, bold and beautiful! (and in case you are wondering, bottom left is the new Eastwood Phase 4 - replica of the Kurt Cobain Univox Phase 4 - and I mean replica in every detail)
That hollowbody, maybe some form of competition for the 5120?? Or at least an alternative with P-90's for a bit of a different flavour. And that tuxedi with a bigsby looks SEXUAL!!

I dont care what you paint on that, it still looks cheap and tacky, not what you'd expect from something that expensive and hyped. and yeah, the thing looks almost just as bit, just turned length ways instead of width ways.

Mmm interesting stuff! Not really interested in the Klon tbh, though I'm sure it'll sound good. Deff a step backwards aesthetically though IMHO. Delay pedal looks cool, but it's friggen huge! No timeline competitor. Stereo AC-30s though....fap haha. I wanna see something awesome from Strymon!
Yeah the klon does look like shit, But I want that sound!!
That vox delay is obviously no timeline competitor. But depending on how it's priced and how sturdy it is, it could do well against the giga delay and DL4.
And yep, them AC30's are sounded sexy as shit!!!
Not just AGGH matty, TGP and discofreqs effects database ;)
heaps of new shit here, pigronix looper (pffft give me a 'rang!!!)

Just scrolling through the "New Klon" thread on TGP... and this is a summary...
- New Klon is smaller than the original
- New Klon is redesigned and being built by US contractor rather than 1 by 1
- New Klon will be cheaper, but no pricing has been established from a reliable source yet
- New Klon will be available in 6-8 months via dealers
- the demo box seen at NAMM is a prototype and aesthetics aren't finalized.
- New Klon has a switch on the side to turn the buffer on/off
- it will blend

the quantam leap is apparently a Delay, but can also be dialed to sound like a phaser a chorus and a octave.... sounds pretty dam awesome to me
Here's the shpiel....
the Quantum Leap, built off the Memory Lane Jr, which goes from a short delay (acting flanger-ish) all the way to a typical 500 ms analog-style delay, while also offering classic chimey chorus-type tones. It also does pitch shifting up or down one octave.
and the sound clip...
http://www.diamondpedals.com/samples/audio/Quantum%20Leap/Quantum%20Leap%20clip%201.mp3
It sounds good yeah, great analogue delay sounds. Nothing revolutionary. Nothing the timeline doesn't have covered. Except for that octave up/down sweep thing, which I wouldn't get much use out of.

SG jrs are nice, the rest of the ideas span from "not too great" to "totally fucking stupid", apart from the new LP jr they have coming out, but then they put a Tele guard on it, weird. but yeah, Nice SGs :)

01-25-2012, 03:44 PM
a B bender bends the B up to a C or Csharp or something like that. virtually useless if you ask me. maybe slide players or jazz players use it? i dont konw, but yeah.
What makes more sense is taking that idea, and making a Drop D bender. id love to jump to drop to D easily on my LP.
Now THAT'S a million dollar idea mitch :)
Mitch-PTV
01-25-2012, 04:13 PM
Yea but its a good idea and this is the guitar world, it will never fly.
Maybe if i offer it with a truarc and recommend it gets played though a dumble for ultimate tonegasms... i think then id move a couple of units :p
UbangiStomper
01-25-2012, 06:57 PM
Hahaha ultimate tonelordz. The idea of the tru arc is great for sure, mismatched radius between board and bridge sucks. Only thing where my falcons got it over the Phoenix really. 9.5 into 12 doesn't go haha. However, I've tried most of the bridges for gretsches - melita, bar, bigsby aluminium and TOM and of you're after bitey kerrang from a gretsch, it's gotta be a TOM or a bigsby. The bigsby bridge sounded the best to me, but you for get te fine control of intonation obviously. Bars sound great, but they're a bit more I dunno, boomy/rounder sounding maybe? They're subtel(ish) differences, but definitely there. Tru arc isn't by any means gonna be the best for everyone though for sure. Matched radius is a different matter though. ALL
Bridges should match up to the board radius. Why Gretsch haven't rectified that is beyond me!
B benders are cool guys haha. Mainly for country music, usually bending a 3rd up to a sus4 or minor 3rd to major third, get me? So you could play a d major at the 5th fret pull down on the neck, which kicks the bender in via the strap button and you bend up to a dmaj sus4. Cool as for bending in an out of chords. But yeah, it's mainly a country thing :)
Oh and hip shot have a d tuner thingo. Other guitarist in my old band had one on a less Paul. Meh really. Haha
Mitch-PTV
01-25-2012, 08:03 PM
ah alright, starting to see the purpose now. i was thinking if you played a chord and kicked it up a few frets you would just sound out of tune, but yeah, it could work for some in the right context i spose. Like we said, different styles of musical thinking here haha.
Also, i have to agree about the radius thing. why they woudlnt match it is beyond me. it just doesnt make sense not too, its only on the Setzer models, and on the rumble in brixton dvd (i think) in the extra features, theres an interview with TV jones while he is filing down the saddles to match the radius of the board.

Yeah they're actually pretty hard to play properly, but as you said, in the right context they're pretty cool! We had a Marty Stewart custom shop tele through the store a while back (Clarence White special I think it's called) which has a b bender stock. Dicked around on it a bit, but yeah I'm no good with them haha.
Haha I remember that on the DVD now! I did that to mine too, definitely an improvement. Man if the feenix had a 12" radius board it would be perfect. Still the balls though :) got 11-56s on it atm, so Malcolm Youngy. Still reasonably slinky on the top strings being 11s too. Sigh....Gretsch <3 :)

Close but no doughnut boys! I get mine from juststrings.com now. First I bought a bunch of 10-52 d'adarrios, but the 52s still a bit flabby on a gretsch for me. Now I'm using the juststrings house strings, which are made for them by either d'adario or DR (one of the big American ones anyway) and I can choose whatever the hell gauge I want haha. Basically get 12 sets of whatever for $40 with shipping. Killer. Dunno I've never really like the feel of elixirs, bit sponges or something, but ey whatever does it for you :)

Yerp. Come in packs of twelve per gauge. 6 gauges and one has oneself 12 sets of nice, stupid cheap strings. Or acoustic stings/bass/whatever. Only catch is its a flat $40 shipping fee. Get 4-5 mates together and you're laughing! Let me know I you want in though dude, I'll probs do another order soonish.

Click on the bulk strings link dude, all in there. Should be around 30-35 for 12 sets of 10-52s, then add on whatever for shipping. If its five people, $8US shipping, 2 people $20 etc, trick is to get a few people in on the order, everyone saves money that way. No probs dude! Probably shouldn't be doing it given I work at Twang, but ya can't say no to those prices for custom gauges haha.

That's a pretty good idea. You know the Ethos Drive pedals?? Them biiiiiig expensive dumble sounding pedals/preamps pedals?? They now come with an amp built in... or something like that...

Im with Matt here, i dont think it looks bad at all. I woudlnt buy one, but that black chrome and black sparkle has a certain cool factor about it. good on em i say.
and Yea, it was only a matter of time before that happened. i can see the Duncan filters crashing and burning tho. Its a pretty niche market and you have waaay to many purists and TV fanboys who will shun SD for doing it even before trying the pickups.

ok the silver and black one looks cool (yes those are black filters) but that gold one is fuckin ugly haha
Don't get me wrong, I love the black binding and hardware. Nice for something different, looks aaaaaaawesome on the David Lee sig falcon. I just HATE the silver. I've never liked silver guitars. Remember gibsons "platinum" range? Sg's and Les Pauls? Foooooking hated them.

What's hard is a sexy looking lunchbox amp chassis, low priced, yet still profitable.. :)

I am trying to draw as hard as I can as to what i like aesthetically.. but in the end, it could be just a rectangular box hehe.. not sure abt transatlantic. It'd be handwired, no PCB. Hard to cramp everything inside...

Okay... I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Klons are overated big time. I really like my Klonel, it's a great pedal, but there is no way they're substantially better than other drive pedals. 12axe, Timmy, OCD, Sky Blue, Hotcake, Tubezone, Honey Bee... the list could go on. I would say any of them is in the same league as the Klon, and some of them I think are better.
Anyhow, on another note. Was just at Billy Hyde trying out the M13. Holy kablammo, yep I do want one. You really would have to sit down for 2 days solid just working out your presets, but it's a damn cool box of tricks.
How wacked out are the synth modes? Had an impromptu sci fi style weirdathon jam with one of the BH dudes tapping away on an electronic kit.
Oh and for reference, I was playing a thinline tele (too much fucking gloss on those fender necks!) into a Line 6 whatever it is... The one's that look cool that are designed by bogner? Anyhow, was just set clean so that I could mess with the m13. The fuzz octave stuff is pretty rad too. It's pretty much just like having Jack White in a box! That should be their slogan.

Of course the Klon is overated nick.... but it still is one of the best overdrive pedals getting around. It really is surprising how SEXY the falcon headstocks are, considering they are .. KIND OF... "pointy"
As in, I can REALLY see the similarities between that and say a Dean Dimebag Darrell sig!

That whole 'ramones' sound is having a solid comeback at the moment, very garage punk. And so is that tone. And I freaking love it!

Chinese...LP's about $600 retail. Gold top p90s, customs, bursts. Bout $799 retail for a Chinese 335, which I reckon give USA Gibbos a good run for their money. Japanese stuffs more 1500-2k retail and up. All full retail though mind you ;) we haven't had any juniors or firebirds through, but I'm sure they'd do them!
Best guess with the banned in USA is that they're so similar to the Gibbos, even headstocks are pretty similar. But I'm not really sure to be honest dude! If i was Gibson, I wouldn't want them sold on my turf either haha.
Yeah that's a fair call, they sound like AMAZEBALLS guitars. If I were gibson I wouldn't want a bar!
Farrrkkk man.... SO cheap and I do regard your recommendation quite highly, so they must be AWESOME instruments.

How you liking your Lil Night Train dude? Thinking a super low power amp might be on the cards for me at some stage.. I guess this is probably the top contender at this stage.

I like it quite alot.
Its definitely best used as a clean amp + dirt pedals type deal. best thing I've found with it? it runs 160hms out, so i just switch the power and speaker cables over from the wizard so it runs through my hame 4x12 and sounds great.
Cant quite get the same crunchy fat tone you can with the wiz but its a whole bunch of fun for the size.
I do want to try some better t00bz in it too at some stage, but I've only got 1 JJ 12ax7 spare, need to get some more from my dear friend mr sanders at some time

Awwww cool. I could see this ending well, with some sexy ass P-90'd falcons/penguins/jets and the like. YUM!
But nope, I HOPE none of us would do something like that to our lovely gretsches. Gretsches and filters FTW! Unless it was someone like Dave, who has three of the bastards!
Plus mitch, that's what you're jnr is going to be for ;) There's so many freaking guitars I want right now.... SO much Gas... but SO much time before I'll get to relieve it! I really want to try me some mini-buckers... I rekon they'd be kewwwlll....

I sure do, except for the pickups being black p90's? oh and i think its a 17" body.

It's actually alot more similar than you remember! Pretty much a 17 inch cheney sig! unbound F holes though by the looks of it, no guard, and a different bigsby. Purely aesthetic things, who knows about the electrics and bracing and pickups and such. By the looks of it it even has sperzels!

ive been saying this for the past what... 5 years? since i first started looking at Gretschs. IT JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE! it will be their highest selling model!
It really would, the reason MOST of us steered away from getting a falcon is because of the specs. They look amazeballs, but when you think about all of hugely modded up specs on much cheaper models .... getting a falcon doesn't seem to make as much sense.
IMAGINE A POWER FALCON! Basically, vert logo, block inlays, TV's, trestle bracing, sperzels..... EVERYTHING YOU FREAKING WANT IN A GRETSCH!!!

Completely agree.. It seems that in their desire to stay true to history they're willing to sacrifice creating a new history with some stand out models. I'd love to see them increase their hollow line and listen to feedback from modern players rather than the old guard.

thats the exact reason why i havnt seriously looked at a falcon. they look great, but they fall down spec wise, which they shoudlnt! they are meant to be the top of the line, but spec wise, they just dont stand up to the others.
Fuck i want that power falcon! G6136-PTV. Bring it on fuckers! or white Phoenix, either way!

thats the problem right there Nicko, and id say the Gretsch pages are to blame for the most part, the entire demographic there complain about every slight feature that isnt 100% historically correct! but hey, age is going to catch up with them soon enough, and when it does, we shall take over!... too far?
but yes thats why i love the Tenny, it was made with a modern player in mind. Same as the Setzer, the Cheney the Jag Tan anni.
They just need to release a modern player series or somethign and things would be PERFECT.

On the back of the Fender Blacktop series I reckon it's not that out of the question that we'll see just that from Gretsch in the next few years, a modern series or something?
Basically, just bring out a whole line of TV Jones/Trestle Bracing models that fuck off the horizontal falcon logo. ;)
In a range of finishes. ;)
Yeah fair call there Nicko, fender are releasing quite a few 'modern' style guitars at the moment... hopefully that filters down into the gretsch stable?
We should all email gretsch!

Not a Sunn I don't reckon because they usually have black lines on the faceplate? Vintage Ampegs usually have the control panel at the top like a Fender?? And Soldano's seem to have their indicator lights on the right hand side not the left???
